Dalbury, All Saints

Dalbury, All Saints

All Saints, Dalbury is a lovely ancient church in the tiny hamlet of Dalbury, a quiet haven of peace where time stands still. There was already a church here when the Norman conquest took place and the church boasts a small stained glass panel depicting St Michael which dates from almost that time. Experts say it is from the early 12th or late 11th century. It is possibly the oldest stained glass panel in Britain and one of the oldest in Europe.

Also of note is the pipe organ – made by the organ builders to the Prince Regent in the early 19th century and well preserved and little changed since then (although in need of conservation work).
A rector of the 19th century was handy as a wood carver and worked some of the carvings in the church himself.
